By Jen Chambon, CEO of Precise Language Solutions
In today's fast-paced, technology-driven world, it's easy to forget that language isn't just about words. It's about people. At Precise Language Solutions, we believe that no matter how advanced the tools, platforms, or systems become, human connection remains the cornerstone of effective communication.
What Does "Human Touch" Mean in Language Services?
When we talk about "human touch," we're talking about empathy. It's about stepping into the shoes of the end user, often patients in a healthcare setting, and asking, "Will they understand this? Will they feel seen, respected, and empowered by the language we use?"
Take the word cardiologist, for example. For someone with a low literacy level or limited medical knowledge, this term might be unfamiliar. So we go further. We add plain language support: cardiologist (a doctor who takes care of your heart). This is about accessibility. We're not changing the source content; we're enhancing the target language with a human perspective.
Artificial Intelligence is a powerful tool. It speeds up translation workflows, helps us manage large volumes of content, and supports quality control. But AI is just that, a tool. Like a hammer or a drill, its effectiveness lies in how you use it.
What AI lacks is context. It cannot yet grasp cultural nuance, emotional tone, or the subtle intent behind a phrase. That's why the human brain remains irreplaceable in the language industry.
Culture, Context, and Community
As a leader in language services, my belief is simple: lead with your heart.
We can't run a company like Precise with just tools and deadlines. We have to care deeply about the work we do, and about the people we serve. Every choice we make is about creating a holistic experience for the end user. Fluency alone is not enough. Emotional intelligence is a language of its own, one that technology cannot fully replicate. As we continue to scale and innovate, we don't lose sight of what matters most: people. We're not chasing speed for speed's sake or innovation without purpose, quality is what matters most.
My advice to companies looking to grow globally without losing cultural sensitivity is to always lead with the heart. Technology can be learned. Passion cannot. The future of language isn't about replacement—it's about enhancement.
At Precise Language Solutions, we are committed to learning hard, loving harder, and translating with purpose. Every document, every conversation, every word is an opportunity to build a bridge between people.
Because at the end of the day, the message matters. And so does how it makes people feel.
